Why Twitter Suspended Kangana Ranaut’s Account?

The actress Kangana Ranaut has been permanently banned from Twitter for violating the social networking website’s “Hateful Conduct” and “Abusive Behaviour” policies. Her tweets have caused outrage, citing a call for President’s Rule in West Bengal. Ranaut’s comments are just the latest in a string of controversial tweets from the actress. The actress’s tweets also include calls for Narendra Modi to kill the gundai in West Bengal.

While there is no reason to believe Ranaut was a victim of hate speech, it is difficult to dismiss her tweets that referenced Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. The tweets were so controversial that Twitter suspended Kangana’s account. Besides referring to the two leaders, Ranaut’s tweet also referenced the Godhra riots. She subsequently wrote an apology to Twitter users.

Those who follow Twitter may wonder why Kangana Ranaut’s account was suspended. The actress, who is a popular Twitter user, has been banned before for inflammatory tweets. She later vowed to quit the social media site in favour of desi Twitter, and she made that decision in October 2018.
